We work in close partnership with our church,St Edward the Confessor in Romford Market Place. The church stands in the heart of the busy town of Romford, surrounded by its shops, houses, pubs, clubs and businesses and famous market. There has been a church here since 1410 serving what was an Essex market town and now is the bustling and vibrant place where Essex and East London meet. The parish is in the Church of England Chelmsford Diocese.
The present church was completed in 1850 on the site of the church of 1410 and it continues its ministry of worship and welcome. The church is open each day as a place for prayer and quiet.
"O Sovereign God, who didst set thy servant Edward
upon the throne of an earthly kingdom
and didst inspire him with zeal for the kingdom of heaven:
grant that we may so confess the faith of Christ by word and deed,
that we may, with all thy saints, inherit thine eternal glory;
through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord,
who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever."
The vicar,Father Mike Power,is very much part of the school community and is always available to listen and encourage both children and staff.
All the children attend church services regularly. Children in Foundation Stage, Nursery and Reception Year, attend termly pram services with preschool age children from the parish. Older children attend church services at least once every half term. The major Christian festivals are always celebrated with either a service in church or in school. Our worship committee consisting of pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, parents, members of staff, governors and members of the local congregation, play an active part in preparing for these services.
Members of other local clergy teams are also invited to lead daily acts of worship in school.
Children also regularly visit the church as part of their RE and local history learning.
