Welcome to Year 4. Your teachers in this year group are Mrs Crosbie (Year Team leader), Miss Faulkner and Mrs Procopio.
Year 4 is an exciting year for the children as they work towards their pen licence, once their handwriting is beautifully joined and legible. They will also be able to recite their times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of the year!
Our aim is to help children to develop their independence both with their learning and social skills, with the guidance from adults when necessary. We provide lots of opportunities for the children to explore the curriculum, including listening to an orchestra, visiting Colchester Castle to link with our Romans topic as well as specialised sports coaching. We are very fortunate to receive professional music lessons from Havering Music School every Thursday and the children are able to explore various styles of music and play different musical instruments. Our learning style in Year 4 develops their everyday skills through practical approaches such as weighing ingredients to aid their learning about measures in Mathematics. There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities the children are able to participate in including cookery club, cross country club and athletics club as well as having responsibilities as a representative for School Council, Worship Committee, Eco-Warrior or SNAG. The children develop their love for reading through our study of a variety of books in our Literacy lessons, which often link to our other curriculum areas including Science, History and Geography.
