Welcome back to year 6. This is a very exciting time as you are now the oldest children in the school. Along with this goes extra responsibilities and you are now role models for the other children in the school.
At the beginning of the year, all children have the opportunity to apply for the position of House Captains or Sports Captains. The children who apply will give a presentation explaining why they would like this role and they are then elected democratically by the other pupils in year 6. Elections also take place for class representatives for school council, eco warriors, worship committee and SNAG. There will also be other responsibilities such as librarians and digital leaders.
We are very excited about taking part in the Archbishop of York’s Young Leaders’ award for Primary Schools, which focuses on young people to ‘be the change they want to see’ in their local community.
In October, pupils in year 6 are able to take part in the pilgrimage to Westminster Abbey to celebrate St Edward’s Day. In the past, our children have been given the opportunity to read lessons and prayers in the service in the Abbey, an amazing opportunity.
At the end of the year, year 6 pupils have the chance to go to PGL for five days, where they will be able to take part in great range of exciting activities. More details will come later.
Some important information.
The teachers in year 6 are Mrs Goodwin (6G), Mrs Goldstein (6RG) and Miss Zweistra (6Z).
Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday and we have swimming on Thursday. Please make sure that your child’s full PE kit is in school and is named, and ensure that their swimming kits come into school on Thursday.
