See you in September!

Thursday, 21st July 2022

Dear Parents/Carers,

Well, here we are. The end of another academic year!

This year has certainly been a rollercoaster and we have had some real challenges that we have had to overcome as a school: emerging from COVID, the fear of new variants, losing a member of the school family. We have also had some real highs: seeing children return to a more 'normal' year, excellent exam results showcasing the hard work of our staff and children and, in the last few weeks, a real celebration of our Year 6 children through our productions and services. Throughout all of the highs and lows, I have continued to be overwhelmed by what a truly special place our school is. In very few school communities do you get such a close family relationship where people are so willing to laugh together, cry together, celebrate together and where there are countless examples of people looking out for other people so selflessly.

The summer holidays are a mixed experience for many of our families and children. Some families are ready for a rest and have some lovely activities planned. For some families and children, the worries of change of routine can be unsettling. Please know that we are available throughout the holiday and our school emails (contact@stedwardsva.net) will be monitored throughout.

Today we say goodbye to several members of staff: Jan Jones, part of our site team, who is going into a well-deserved retirement; Louisa Sillett, who has been appointed as an Assistant Head Teacher of a school in Thurrock; and Rachael John who will be going to teach overseas. We are really sad to be losing these members of our school community today, but we are also very excited for their new adventures, knowing that they remain very much part of our school family.

On behalf of Mrs Sajuwa and I, we would like to thank you for your ongoing love, support and prayers. Thank you for your kind gifts over the last few days too; they are really appreciated.

Have a wonderful holiday, stay safe and look after those close to you. We look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday 5th September.

Kind regards,

Chris Speller

Head Teacher
