Weekly News
I hope you have had a positive week and have been enjoying the welcome arrival of warmer weather — it certainly feels like the summer term is now well underway!
It has been a busy and exciting week in school. Our Year 2 athletics team competed at Harrow Lodge Sports Centre yesterday and came first place – a fantastic achievement! Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 cricket team won two out of three matches in the Havering Cricket Tournament. We are incredibly proud of the children and of our school’s strong track record in sport; St Edward's continues to be one of the highest-performing schools in the borough for sporting success.
Today, we also enjoyed a lovely visit from Wellgate Community Farm, who brought a selection of animals to meet the children in The Treehouse, Nursery, and Reception. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn more about animals and farm life in a hands-on and engaging way.
A few reminders and updates for the weeks ahead:
Bank Holiday – Monday 5th May
A reminder that school will be closed on Monday for the national Bank Holiday. We look forward to welcoming all children back on Tuesday 6th May. As the weather continues to warm up, please ensure your child brings a refillable water bottle each day to stay hydrated.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
You should have received an email yesterday with full details of the extra-curricular clubs available this term. These begin next week. Please ensure you book places in advance. Please also remember that breakfast and after-school club places must still be booked separately if required.
VE Day Celebrations – Thursday 8th May
On Thursday, we will be joining schools across the country in celebrating VE Day (Victory in Europe Day). Children are invited to wear red, white and blue for the day, should they wish. We will also be having a special outdoor picnic lunch as part of our school 'street party'.
Scooters and Bicycles
We are proud to have such a healthy and active community of children who scoot or cycle to school each day. You may have noticed our new bike shelter on the Key Stage 2 playground, which will also support the use of bikes during free time. Please be reminded that all bikes and scooters are left at your own risk, and we ask all families to ensure that children do not move, play with, or take home any scooter or bicycle that is not theirs. This understandably causes upset and confusion, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing this with your children.
Summer Holiday Camp – Save the Date
Following the success of last year’s programme, we are planning to run our Summer Holiday Camp once again this year. It will run for three weeks from 4th August to 22nd August, and will include both funded places, for pupils eligible for pupil premium funding, and paid places for other families. More information and booking details will be shared in the coming weeks.
Wishing you all a wonderful extended weekend. We look forward to seeing you and your children back in school on Tuesday.
