Weekly News
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope this email finds you well at the end of our first week back after the half term break.
It has been wonderful to see our children so engaged and enthusiastic about their new learning this term. A reminder that you can view what your child will be studying this half term in their knowledge organisers, available on our website here: https://www.stedwardsva.net/The-Curriculum/
In our Collective Worship this week, we have been focusing on the theme of ‘Remembering.’ Children have been encouraged to reflect on their happiest memories and on special moments in their lives. We also looked ahead to Remembrance Day, thinking about the importance of honouring those who have sacrificed so much for others. We reflected on Jesus’ command to love our neighbour as ourselves and considered how our world could become a more peaceful, caring place if we each lived out that love in our daily actions.
There is a very practical way we can put this love into action as members of the St Edward’s community. Recently, we have noticed an increase in inconsiderate parking near the school — including cars blocking neighbours’ driveways, parking on double yellow lines, and, on occasion, aggressive responses when asked to move. Please can I ask all parents to model our school values of respect and responsibility when driving and parking around the school site. Many families choose to park and walk from Matalan, and we would encourage this where possible. Allowing a little extra time in the morning can help ensure that everyone arrives safely and punctually. While I know that the vast majority of our parents park thoughtfully — and I thank you sincerely for this — as a church school it is especially important that we demonstrate our values to the local community around us.
News and Notices
Poppy Collection
Next week, our Year 6 prefects will be visiting classes to sell poppy-themed items, including slap bands, keyrings, and stickers. Children may bring in a small donation (suggested £1 for wristbands, slap bands, etc.) if they wish to purchase an item and support the Royal British Legion.
Dates for This Term
Important upcoming dates — including our Christmas Nativities and Carol Concerts — can be found on our school website. Please take a moment to note these in your diary.
That’s all for now. I wish you a lovely weekend, and we look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Monday. Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and encouragement.
Kind regards,
Chris Speller
Head Teacher
