Weekly News

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been wonderful to see your children back at school this week, ready for another half-term of excellent learning! I explained to the children in our collective worship this week that this is probably my favourite half-term, as we move towards the joy of… Christmas! I resisted introducing Christmas carols into our singing assembly this week, but I am sure they will be arriving soon.

This week has been full of energy, with a number of visits, including to the Imperial War Museum, Barleylands, and some sports fixtures, just to name a few! I would like to extend my thanks to all parents/carers who have helped us on these visits. Without your support, the fantastic number of experiences we offer would not be possible.

This week, we have moved fully into our ‘winter’ uniform. Please ensure that children in Key Stage 2 are wearing ties with their shirts (available from the school office). A few children this week have been reminded not to wear jewellery, including earrings. Please support us in adhering to our uniform policy.

Please see below a number of news items and notices for the coming week:

REMEMBRANCE DAY

On Monday, 11th November, we will be marking Remembrance Day in school. We will stop at 11am to observe two minutes of silence with our children. We have a number of Royal British Legion items for sale in the school office, and these will also be brought around to classes for sale on Monday morning.

ODD SOCK DAY - TUESDAY, 12th NOVEMBER

Next week, we will be marking National Friendship Week, and children will be doing a number of activities to encourage them to think about friendship, tolerance, and getting along well. It is National Odd Sock Day on Tuesday, and children are welcome to come into school wearing odd socks!

SHOEBOX APPEAL

This year, we will be taking part in the Samaritans Purse Shoebox Appeal. Children are welcome to bring in a shoebox with gifts/toiletries for a young child. We will be ordering ‘flatpack’ shoeboxes, which will be available in the office shortly. We will let you know when they arrive, but you can also use your own shoebox. Boxes should be in school by Wednesday, 27th November.

UNIFORM REMINDER

Children should now all be in our winter uniform.  Please see our website for details. School hats and ties can be purchased from the school shop. Please remember that children should have black school shoes and a black or navy coat. On P.E. days please make sure your child has the correct school jogging bottoms and sweatshirt. Please make sure that everything is labelled with your child’s name. Please also be reminded that earrings and other jewellery are not allowed in school for Health and Safety reasons. Children will be asked to remove earrings and jewellery.

Our annual Christmas Hanger decorations will be due in school on Monday, 2nd December, so do get your creative thoughts going!
