Weekly News

Friday, 1st October 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this email finds you well. After a very wet start to the day, it is great to see the sun is now shining! As you may be aware, we had to close our Swimming Pool for a few days this week. We have had a new chemical dosing system installed recently, which will make the pool more automated and 'future proof' but, as with all technology, we had a few teething problems with it and therefore, in order to keep the children safe, we closed the pool for a few days. I am pleased to say that the system is now working swimmingly and lessons will resume next week.

It has also been fantastic to see children enjoying the wide range of clubs we have in place. If you are not already following our school Facebook page, we would really encourage you to do so. You do not need to be a member of Facebook to see what is on there either, but if you do 'Like' our page, you will get updates of the excellent things going on in school

Please see a few key notices below:

Applications for Reception and Nursery

Applications are currently open for our Reception and Nursery cohorts in September 2022 (and then at the start of each term for Nursery). If you, or someone you know, would like to find out more, we would encourage you to come for a tour of the school.

Black History Month- WHO I AM!

At school we are proud to celebrate the rich cultural heritage we have as a community. Therefore, we see the celebration of Black History Month as a time to share this further across our school and, with all that has occurred over the past few years, we feel it is important to propagate respect, tolerance and awareness of those who are different to ourselves. The theme this year is WHO I AM, which will be a month of celebrating African – Caribbean culture and it’s influences in all areas.

We are privileged to have a wide range of volunteers visiting our school over the month of October to talk to, inspire and motivate our children to celebrate their own cultures.

Our visitors over the month of October will be:

·        Nancy- mum/ singer,

·        Members of gospel Essence- Choir - BBC finalists,

·        Anu Omideyi- (singer/ songwriter/ public speaker),

·        Ike Eche- HS Ideas – Christian Film maker,

·        Yemisi- Fashion Designer- (Kiwi&Yam fashion brand),

·        Parents/Carers/Grandparents coming in to read cultural stories to our children/ talk about their personal experiences.

But it doesn’t end there, we have also taken over the kitchen, with the support of a parent helper, who will be in the kitchen with our staff in October to create authentic cultural dishes every Wednesday! The menus will go out weekly, so please look out for this. However, to make you a little hungry… this week’s menu is ‘Chicken Curry and Plantain ‘. Please see the attached for the full menu.

Absences from School and COVID testing

In line with Local Authority guidelines, if your child is absent from school with any COVID related symptoms (persistent cough, high temperature or loss of taste/smell), we will be asking parents to ensure their child has a PCR test before they return. This is to ensure that we are doing all we can to stop cases coming into school. Parents will be requested to send a copy of the test result to the school office prior them coming in.

We also remind parents that they should phone or email the school if their child is absent and this should be repeated every day of their absence.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend and enjoy quality family time together. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the School Office.

Kind regards,

Chris Speller

Head Teacher
