Weekly Update

Friday, 3rd November 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope this email finds you well and that you have had an enjoyable week despite the wind and rain! It has been fantastic to have the children back in school after the holiday and learning has begun again at pace!

This week saw the launch of our Coffee Morning, on Tuesday, and our Toddler Group, on Wednesday. Both events, which begin from 9am, are great opportunities for our school community to come together. If you want any more information, do contact the school office.

Parents Evening

Booking for our Parents Evenings is now open. You can make an appointment by following the link here: https://parents-booking.co.uk/stedwardsva

If you are unable to make these evenings, please contact the office/your child's teacher to try and arrange an alternative time.

Weather and coats

As the weather is now turning, and it is becoming particularly wet and cold, we ask you to ensure your child comes to school in a blue (or black) coat each day. Please ensure the coat is labelled with their name as we already have a number in lost property!

Swimming donations

We are really proud of our school swimming pool and the lessons we provide to children at St Edward’s. We rely on parental donations to support this provision, and maintain the pool facilities. If you haven’t done so already, we would greatly appreciate any donation you can provide, which can be done so via ParentPay. A termly donation of £10-20 would go a long way in supporting the upkeep of this wonderful facility.

Dismissal at the end of the day

At the end of the school day, it is imperative we have systems in place to ensure all 680 of our children are dismissed safely. A few children have been going through school to wait in the classes of their younger siblings. Unless this is arranged with specific consent from myself, for exceptional reason, we are unable to allow this to happen as it means that there is not clarity with regards to which member of staff is responsible for those children. With ten minutes, between 3:10 and 3:20, there is plenty of time for parents to collect a number of children from different classrooms. Arrangements for Year 5 & 6 children, who have written permission to leave class alone and will do so through external pathways, are unaffected by this.

PE Uniform

On PE Days, children should wear our school PE sweatshirt. If you do not have one, it can be ordered from Havering Schoolwear or you can contact the office to see if we have any in our pre-loved store. If children come to school wearing non-school uniform attire (such as hooded/designer jumpers) we will ask them to remove them and just wear their t-shirt/coat when outside.

Shoebox appeal

We are now taking collections for our annual shoebox appeal. More information about what can be collected can be found here: https://www.stedwardsva.net/News/Newsletters/
