Friday, 2nd February 2024
Welcome to February! 2024 is now well underway and our term is progressing very well. It has been great to see the excellent learning taking place in school this week. Another highlight was Year 5's visit to the O2 for their Young Voices performance on Tuesday. It is undoubtedly one of our favourite of the school’s '25 Experiences' and we were so proud to hear and see the children perform, and behave, brilliantly. Thank you to the many parents who came to support us too.
There is plenty going on, and next week is a busy week! Please see the news and notices below:
Children's Mental Health Week & Dressing Up on Friday
We are very excited to again be part of Children's Mental Health Week. This year the theme is, 'My voice matters' run by Place2Be. "My Voice Matters is about empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves.”
You can find more information about this Here. https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/families/ and https://parentingsmart.place2be.org.uk/
This includes; Top tips for families on how you can support your child's mental health, conversation ideas and suggested activities to do as a family.
To encourage children to 'Express themselves' we will be having a non-uniform day on Friday 9th February. There are no donations being collected and children can dress in any (school-appropriate) way that they feel expresses themselves… fancy dress, sports kit, pyjamas, bright colours, cultural dress… it is up to them.
Nursery Stay and Play
We are very excited to invite you to our Nursery stay and play sessions next week on Tuesday 6th and Thursday 8th February 8.30-9.30. Please let us know if you are planning to attend the Stay and Play session by signing up using this Google form: https://forms.gle/porZXp6D7maWqS2j7 . This will give us an estimation of how many parents are coming into our Nursery during those sessions.
With over 700 children in school all wearing at least five items of clothing each...plus swimming bags, PE kits, hats and scarves etc., we have thousands of items of clothing coming into school each day! Please can you help us by ensuring that your child's items are all clearly labelled as our lost property cupboards, of un-labelled items, are filling up again. If you have any items of clothing that come home that have another child’s name on, please do return them to school so we can reunite them with their owners.
Safer Internet Day- Tuesday 6th February
On Tuesday we will be marking Safer Internet Day in school. Some of the most difficult conversations we have, with parents and children, are around incidents that happen on phones, particularly Whatsapp. We would encourage you to use this as an opportunity to talk to your child about how they use devices, particularly if you allow unsupervised access to them.
A reminder that on Thursday 15th February we have two workshops on keeping your children safe online- at 8:50am and 6pm, which will include really helpful and practical tips and real-life examples to help you support your child to access technology safely.
Community Donate and Share Shed
The community shed, on the upper path opposite the school office, will be open on Monday from 8.30-9am. We still have a number of coats, food items and other things that parents and families may find useful.
We have had a tidy up of some of our resources areas this week and have a number of exercise books that we no longer use and some Maths Workbooks (for Year 4 and Year 5). We will be putting these in the Office at the end of the day and you are very welcome to help yourselves.
Have a lovely weekend,
