Weekly Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you have had an enjoyable first week back. It has been great to see your children back in school this week, ready for our final half term of this academic year. It has been a busy week of learning in school and it has also been great to have the resumption of our extra-curricular clubs and a number of sports tournaments taking place too. This week we welcomed a number of leaders from other schools in the borough to undertake a moderation exercise, looking at the work of our Year 6 children. This was an incredibly positive event and the leaders from other schools were really impressed with the standards and quality of work our children produce and how well our staff know our children. Next week Year 1 children will be undergoing their phonics screening checks which I am sure will be another celebration of their hard work and learning.

This term is a busy term and I encourage you to keep referring to our calendar on our website for more information.

Congratulations!

We would like to say a very big congratulations to Mrs Hall who has been appointed as the Head of School at Latchingdon Church of England Primary School. As a number of parents will be aware, Mrs Hall was seconded to the school from April this year and has had a truly phenomenal impact, sharing lots of what we do with her new school... to the point that they now won’t let her leave! After serving our school community incredibly for the last 19 years, we are so proud of this fantastic promotion for her. Whilst she will be taking on this substantive role with immediate effect, we will be welcoming back Mrs Hall to school on the last day of term to properly mark her leaving, so that she can see 2H, and to give her a great send off.

What we are learning this term...

A reminder that you can find out more about what your child is learning this term on our school website here (https://www.stedwardsva.net/The-Curriculum/) . The knowledge organisers, found at the bottom of the page, show the topics they will be learning including key information and vocabulary. These are a great tool to help you at home, when discussing your child's learning with them.

Keeping your child safe at home and school...

As we regularly say to your children, our first and foremost priority as a school is to ensure that your children are happy and safe, both in school and at home. Please be reminded that our Safeguarding team (who can be seen here: https://www.stedwardsva.net/Safeguarding/), are always available to speak with you if you need any help or if you have any concerns about your child, or another child in school. Mrs Nolan-Day, our Learning Mentor, is also our friendship 'champion' and supports children in developing and sustaining healthy relationships with each other, including our anti-bullying monitoring. If you need to speak to any of these members of staff, please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office.

Southend Adventure Island

We still have a number of Southend Adventure Island tickets which can be purchased from our school shop for £16.50

Swimming Lessons

A number of year groups have been enjoying swimming lessons and we are fortunate to have our own pool here at St Edward’s. We do not charge for lessons but do request that families consider making a voluntary contribution towards the lessons that we provide via Parentpay. The donations go towards the upkeep of the pool and the cost of the instructors.

Summer Fayre

On Saturday 29th June we have our summer fun day; an opportunity for children to take part in lots of fun games and activities, have a play on the many bouncy castles that are due to arrive, and for the whole family to taste the lovely burgers and hot dogs on the BBQ! All money raised supports the school fund and the many extra-curricular opportunities that we offer your children.

Have a great weekend,

Kind regards,

Chris Speller
