Weekly Update

Friday, 11th November 2022

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you have all enjoyed a positive week. It has certainly been busy in school! We have had a number of visitors and trips this week including Year 6 having a visit from the school nurse, Year 5 going to Hampton Court Palace, Year 4 having an Anglo-Saxons Day and Year 3 are, today, at Barleylands! We are very proud of the wider opportunities our children have and the celebrations of our broad curriculum.

Please see a number of important notices below:

Odd Sock Day- this Monday
Next week we will be marking Friendship Week in school. A reminder that children are welcome to come into school in odd (brightly coloured!) socks on Monday to mark the beginning of this week.

School Photographs- Individuals and Siblings
This coming Wednesday and Thursday, 16th & 17th November, we will be having individual and sibling photos taken in school. If you would like to bring younger siblings in to have a photo taken with your school-attending children, you are welcome to come between 8:15am and 8:35am on Wednesday 16th. You will need to enter through the Reception Gate and queue up outside of the library. Our staff will be on hand to help direct you. Please ensure children come to school in full winter uniform, including ties, jumpers, cardigans etc, ready for their photo. Please remember that jewellery is not allowed in school.

Times Table Rock Star Competition

We're celebrating Maths Week England by taking part in a friendly times tables (and division) competition. The competition runs from 07:30 GMT Monday 14th November to 19:30 GMT Wednesday 16th November. It's all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

Children can play in any gamemode with every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, earning themselves, their class and the school a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below)). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60-minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60-minutes between 07:30 GMT and 19:30 GMT on 07:30 GMT Monday 14th November to 19:30 GMT Wednesday 16th November. Once the player goes beyond 60-minutes of play on that day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.

In the spirit of the competition, please don't play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn't cause high stress levels or impact on family plans.

sQuid Dinner Money Account

If your child is in Year 3-6 or the Nursery and you wish your child to have a school meal please remember to check their sQuid dinner money account for available funds. If there are not any funds available, please provide them with a packed lunch.  If you feel that your child may be entitled to receive free school meals, please contact Sally Delaney at London Borough of Havering (01708) 433929 to check.

Parent Teacher Meetings

Parent Teacher Meetings will be taking place next Monday and Wednesday. Please arrive in plenty of time to ensure you are not late for your appointment. If parents arrive late, there is no guarantee we will be able to see you. The entrance doors will open at 3:25 to allow parents to come into school, ready for the first appointments to start promptly at 3:30.

On Monday we will be sending our Christmas timetable of events so do look out for the festive email!

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards,

Chris Speller
