Weekly Update
Friday. 28th April 2023
Dear Parents/Carers,
A very happy Friday to you all. I hope you have had a safe and enjoyable week. This week has been a busy time in school. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting with you for our Parent Teacher meetings and it was great to celebrate the progress and achievements of your children. For the few families who were unable to attend, teachers will be making arrangements to speak with you in the coming days.
On Monday our Year 6 Rotary Quiz Team attended their first-round heat against three other schools. We are very pleased to say they made it through to the final and we look forward to hosting that here at St Edward's.
As you will have seen, our roofing, windows and doors project is nearing an end. We will give a further update about this and include some pictures of our refreshed site next week.
Please find attached flyer regarding activities taking place during the May half term holiday, provided by Havering.
Please read the notices below carefully.
Bank Holidays- Monday 1st May and Monday 8th May
This coming Monday, 1st May, is a bank holiday and school is therefore closed. An additional closure day has been announced for Monday, 8th May, to mark the King’s Coronation and school will therefore also be closed on this day.
Industrial Action- Tuesday 2nd May
As previously announced, Tuesday 2nd May has been declared as the next day of Industrial Action and therefore school will remain closed to all children except for those in Nursery, Reception and Year 6. On our most recent day of industrial action, this Thursday, we had the highest number of teachers choose not to attend school than we have had throughout the period of action.
Coronation Celebration Day- Friday 5th May
On Friday, 5th May, children are welcome to come into school wearing Red, White and Blue to mark the King’s Coronation. We will be having a special assembly in school to talk about the event and what will happen on the day. Due to the forthcoming bank holidays and industrial action day, we will otherwise keep to a relatively 'normal' timetable in school to allow staff to maximize learning time next week.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
Our new club timetable has been shared with parents and these have been signed up to rapidly! At the start of next week we will be looking at the number of children signed up to each club and, for the few clubs where the uptake is small, we may choose to merge clubs or offer children an alternative. Please, therefore, ensure that all final bookings/sign-ups are made over the weekend to ensure we have a good understanding of the number of clubs that will be running. All clubs will be starting from next week, beginning on Wednesday.
Swimming Donations
Our Swimming Donation appeal letter was sent to you earlier today. Thank you to those of you who have already donated. If you wish to donate towards this wonderful facility, please find out more in the email sent. Donations can be made via your child’s ParentPay account.
Adventure Island
Our vouchers for Adventure Island wrist bands are now back in stock and can now be purchased for £16.50 via the school ParentPay Shop https://app.parentpay.com/ParentPayShop/Uniform/Default.aspx?shopid=1081
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend- let's hope for some nice weather!
Kind regards,
Chris Speller
