Weekly Update: Friday 19th June
I hope this email finds you well.
We have had another positive week in school and have LOVED having some of our Year 6 children back in school. This week we have had around 140 children in each day, spread across 14 bubbles. We are also welcoming back around 30 children in Year 4 for next week, which Mrs Hall, Miss Dunn & Miss Pannell are very excited about. As I said in my previous email, if it is safe to do so and if we have the space and staffing capacity, we hope to offer this to other year groups in the coming weeks and we will get in touch with parents about this as soon as we can.
The Home Learning Packs for next week are now available on the school website at: https://www.stedwardsva.net/School-Closure-Home-Learning-22-6/
Next week is Maths Week nationally, so do join in with the extra Maths activities on there, and I remind Years 1 to 6 about the TT Rockstars 'London Challenge' which you were emailed about earlier this week.
It was also great to see lots of children joining in with the Quiz yesterday. A big 'Thank You' to Miss Pearce for all her work with this. This afternoon we will be having our Celebration Assembly at 2pm. This will be the last celebration assembly like this. As more children return to school, we are receiving less work and therefore believe the time has come for this to finish. As we approach the end of term we will, however, be having a number of special events and we will send you further details about these at a later date.
One of those events will be our Virtual Summer Concert! We are really proud of the high quality musicians we grow at St Edward's and know our music curriculum, both in class and through the wide variety of peripatetic lessons that take place, is a real strength and tradition of our school. One of the highlights of the summer term are our music concerts. This year, we would like to put together a virtual concert, encouraging children to film their performances at home, which we will then put together into one long concert video and ‘premiere’ one evening in July. We have contacted the peripatetic music teachers to inform them of this, but if your child has lesson in school or with Havering Music School and would like your child to be involved please do email the School Office (firstname.lastname@example.org) for the attention of Miss McPherson, and she will give you more information about what we would like you to do!
Whilst ensuring we finish this year in style, we are also planning and preparing for next year as well. We are hoping in the next week or two to email parents to inform you of the new class teachers for 2020-21 and the plans we are putting in place to ensure the transition from one year group to another is smooth and effective. A number of parents have asked about giving gifts/cards to staff at the end of the year, to say 'Thank You!' for all they have done this year. We will be planning an opportunity for parents to do this, in a safe and socially distanced way, which we will write to you about in the near future.
As always, if you have any problems, questions or need any support, please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office. I would like to thank you, on behalf of the staff. for your continued thoughts, prayers, support and kind words. St Edward's is truly a special place and we thank you for all you are doing to play you part in keeping our school family going through these times.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards and many blessings,
