Welcome back Year 5!
It has been great to welcome back your children to school. We have really enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm and positive attitude they came in with on Monday! We are looking forward to getting back into teaching and learning, and seeing the progress the children will make.
We wanted to contact you to give you some key information about the coming weeks in school.
PE & Swimming
This term, all classes will be having their PE lessons on Monday. On this day children will be expected to come into school in their PE kits. This includes: shorts and T-shirts under their winter P.E. kit, (which should be tracksuit bottoms and a sweatshirt), and plain black trainers. The children will be required to wear the correct school P.E. uniform; if you are unsure about what this includes, please check the school website. Please ensure these requirements are stuck to as we will be contacting parents where the incorrect uniform is worn.
We will be having our Swimming lessons on Wednesday starting from the week beginning Monday, 21st September. Children will be expected to dress themselves independently, so please do practice this (especially doing up their school ties).
Homework and Reading Books
Homework will be given out on a Monday and due back into school the following Monday. This will usually comprise of one piece of literacy and one piece of maths homework. The children will be given a folder to keep these sheets in. A spelling sheet will also be given on a Monday for children to complete every evening at home; this will also need to be returned to school completed on the following Monday.
Reading books will be changed on a Monday. The children will be selecting two books to take home for the week. If they have finished their books they can return them on the following Monday and choose replacements. We will not be using reading records at this time.
As a result, children will only need to bring their school bags in on Monday. On all other days, this is optional. Please ensure that children are using the correct school bags.
Water bottles, Pencil Cases and moisturiser.
Children are expected to bring a labelled water bottle into school. These will be returned home each day to be cleaned and refilled.
Children are welcome to bring in a small plain pencil case to have on their table. However, the children will be provided with stationery to use and won’t need additional resources, but we are aware some children enjoy having their own additional equipment. If children are bringing in pencil cases they will need to stay in school and not be taken backwards and forwards from home.
Children are encouraged to bring a small, labelled pot of hand moisturiser to keep on their desks. This will be kept in school once bought in.
Our Curriculum this term
Attached to this email is our Curriculum map for Autumn 1. We are particularly looking forward to some new topics in art and science this term. We are also hoping to have some Walk Through the Bible workshops later this term.
Communication & the office
Please do ensure your contact details are up to date with the school office. We will be posting pictures of some of the exciting things we are doing on our school website and Facebook page, so please do follow us on there.
The office remains ‘Closed’ to visitors and therefore please communicate with the school by phone or email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
If you would like to discuss anything with us, as class teachers, we are very welcome to arrange a time to do so. Please note that, due to encouraging effective social distancing, we may not be able to have longer conversations with parents at the start/end of the day, so please do book in a time with the office if you wish to make contact with us.
Despite school being different to normal, our aim is to provide consistency and quality learning experiences for our children.
